Assistance Available to Employers and Unemployed
Job seekers and employers planning on recalling or hiring workers will want to get the Southeast Alberta Guide to Career and Employment Services. It provides current information on availability of training dollars for laid off or future recall workers and lists where to go for employment services answers. Southeast Alberta is good for business and smart people will use this guide. Oil and Gas and manufacturers will be receiving their copies in the mail this week thanks to the team work of the Medicine Hat Oilmen’s Association and the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta (EDA). “The EDA interviewed oil and gas companies and manufacturers in the region this spring and one of the areas companies needed assistance was in finding money to train workers to meet demands of regulatory requirements by large oil clients and safety requirements.” Caroline Grover, Executive Director of the EDA went on to add “We were concerned about laid off workers not having the most recent certifications when they are recalled. We met with Alberta Employment and Immigration staff who are ready to assist employers and employees.” The Southeast Alberta Guide to Career and Employment Services 2009 provides general information about the career and employment programs and services available in Medicine Hat, Brooks and area. Published by the Province of Alberta Employment and Immigration this guide is available at no cost from their office. Employers can contact this office at (403) 528-5294 for customized solutions. Chris Jakubowsky, President of the Medicine Hat Oilmen’s Association says “working with the EDA and the Province of Alberta’s Employment office makes sense to help our local industry get through these tough times. Training and particularly safety training is important to our guys and we want them to know that there may be help for them to get this training paid for.” In the guide you will find a detailed list of the Alberta Employment and Immigration programs and services as well as Community agencies and programs. In addition, there is a list of helpful websites for career planning, employer workplace, job search, labour market information/human resource management and self employment information. - 30 - For further information contact:
