Recreation
There is no shortage of recreational activities in Southeast Alberta. Our region boasts a wide array of recreational opportunities and amenities; and each community provides ample opportunity for you to participate in a number of different activities and attend a wide variety of events.
We host recreational facilities and areas for golfing, camping, hunting, swimming, fishing, curling, and skating just to name a few; and many of our communities support a number of different teams and leagues that you can become an active participant in.
The Medicine Hat Family Leisure Centre is a vast multi-purpose facility hosting the Kinsmen Aquatic Park, Encana Arena, and a variety of outdoor fields including the Methanex Bowl (Football/Rugby Field), four baseball diamonds, three soccer pitches, and a BMX track. Also located in Medicine Hat is the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Associtaion with the only NHRA sanctioned dragstrip in Alberta!
Swimming pools and other recreational facilities including playgrounds, parks, and community halls can also be found in Redcliff, Bow Island, Dunmore, Irvine, and Foremost.
Connecting 84 playgrounds and 90 parks throughout the city, the Medicine Hat Parks System is a comprehensive 92+ km trail system that can take you wherever you want to go. The town of Redcliff also has its own trail system where you can walk along and enjoy the beauty of the South Saskatchewan River.
Incredible diversity can be found in the surrounding area and unexpected pleasures such as the Cypress Hills area, which includes the Hidden Valley Ski Resort, can be found off Highway 41.
A number of recreation areas are located throughout the region. Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park offers amenities including boating, hiking, and camping. Other local recreation facilities can be found at 40-Mile Park and Golden Sheaf Park. Many stocked and natural fishing lakes are located in the region and several recreation areas provide camping, boating, fishing, water skiing, and swimming.
